Everybody I coach, including myself has a story, a story of ‘reasons’ of why we are not achieving all the things we deserve in life, the way you are today, the standards that you accept and the reasoning for treating others in a way that you do. Our outward behaviour is based on a set of ‘reasons’ we create for acting the way we do. Let me give you an example, when I was at school I quickly realised that if you were extra ‘nice’ to friends you would be liked. So I lived the majority of school life playing it safe and being ‘nice’. Imagine if the situations that taught me this were perceived to mean a different thing all together? Imagine if I made those situations mean, when challenging others be mindful of your tone. The meaning that I created meant everything and at the same time meant nothing at all. What is shocking is that this meaning stuck for a whole 9 years until I had enough self awareness to realise that those thoughts were simply a misconception that I had confirmed as the ‘truth’ in my mind. How many ways of being have you confirmed as the truth?

We all have ‘so what’ stories that we believe give us the direction to the way we live our life. Actually what those stories are doing are keeping you in the past, so ultimately you don’t create possibilities for the future, you live in the past. Imagine what it would be like creating new possibilities for yourself every day, having a free choice on how to act, building a positive future, rather than living in the ‘so what’. Living positively is about arising from the ashes of the past and embracing a powerful future. You create the future you live into, do not let the ashes and the misconceptions of the past dictate a reoccurrence, create a positive wave of change and believe that it will unfold in front of your eyes.
